Trudell Medical Limited Expands AI Operations in St. John’s, NL

Nicknamed ‘YYTrudell,’ the growing 18-person AI Engineering team expands its footprint in Newfoundland and Labrador to drive global healthcare innovation and digital transformation.

ST. JOHN’S, NL — September 15, 2026 — Trudell Medical Limited (TML), a global leader in respiratory healthcare and medical device innovation has announced the expansion of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineering team into a new office space in St. John’s. The move to a new, larger location at Regatta Plaza follows rapid growth for the team, which outgrew its previous space at Churchill Square after scaling to 18 specialized tech professionals.

Established in 2024, the TML AI team—affectionately dubbed ‘YYTrudell’ as a nod to the local airport code—serves as the centralized engine driving AI strategy across Trudell Medical Group's eight global operating companies. The team’s mission focuses on designing and deploying intelligent applications that solve complex business challenges, streamline internal operations, and unlock new growth opportunities in healthcare and medtech.

"Scaling our presence in St. John’s is a direct reflection of the exceptional talent and vibrancy found within Newfoundland and Labrador's tech ecosystem," said Gerald Slemko, CEO of Trudell Medical Limited. "Our ongoing investment in YYTrudell underlines our commitment to leading the healthcare sector into the future through intelligent technology—enhancing how we operate globally and, ultimately, improving outcomes for the patients we serve."

The expansion reinforces Trudell Medical’s active participation in Atlantic Canada's emerging tech corridor. Working alongside local industry associations like techNL, Trudell is contributing to the province's ambitious vision of building a $2.5 billion tech sector economy by 2030.

"Scaling Trudell Medical’s AI capabilities in St. John’s has been a huge success, thanks to the incredible local talent and our active collaboration with groups like techNL to share best practices and mentor emerging technologists," said Seamus Blackmore, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Trudell Medical Group. "Our YYTrudell Team is inspired to come to work each day knowing they are building cutting-edge AI applications that solve complex business challenges with a global footprint. This new facility gives us the runway to keep scaling our impact that ultimately supports patient outcomes."

“We are excited to see Trudell Medical expand its AI engineering team in St. John’s,” said Andrea King, CEO of techNL. “By choosing to build and grow this specialized team here, Trudell is recognizing the talent, collaboration, and momentum driving Newfoundland and Labrador’s tech sector. Its continued investment shows other national and global companies what is possible when they establish teams in our province. We are proud to work with Trudell and celebrate the global healthcare innovation its team is advancing from Newfoundland and Labrador.”

The new St. John’s office is fully operational, with space designed to accommodate further collaborative development, ongoing local talent hiring, and tech community engagement across Newfoundland and Labrador.
